One man extends an arm toward the other’s shoulder while their remaining gloved hands meet near the center of the composition. Horizontal wood paneling and the flag form a strong architectural backdrop. The setting resembles a military or institutional training facility, although no visible insignia establishes a specific unit or service branch.

The existing catalog estimates circa 1917–1925 and associates the image with First World War–era military physical training. The 48-star flag is consistent with this period but, on its own, supports only a broad 1912–1959 range. The photographer, location, participants, and precise technique are unknown.

Boxing, Discipline & Physical Culture

In early twentieth-century training environments, boxing could develop balance, coordination, and endurance as well as provide recreation. This photograph records a demonstration or close-contact exercise rather than a verified competitive bout. Its emphasis is on the shared physical discipline of two trainees, not an invented account of their personal lives.

Part of Walt & Pete®’s Athlétisme collection, this restored and colorized historical photograph offers an engaging view of athletic dress, instruction, and American visual culture. Its contemporary colors are interpretive; they are not proof of the original colors.

Vintage Athletic Wall Art

The dramatic flag, muted green uniforms, and rich wooden setting make this poster a distinctive addition to a boxing gym, study, office, library, sports-history display, or collected gallery wall. It is particularly appealing to enthusiasts of vintage boxing, military history, and historical sports photography.

Walt & Pete® | Forgotten Moments, Forever Remembered.

Product features

Museum-grade archival paper designed for long-term storage without yellowing

Giclée printing delivers bright, intense colors with strong sunlight resistance

Full-color artwork with a light-absorbing matte finish

For indoor use only; slight size variation of up to +/- 1/16 inch may occur

Care instructions

If the print does gather any dust, you may wipe it off gently with a clean, dry cloth.

EU representative: HONSON VENTURES LIMITED, gpsr@honsonventures.com, 3, Gnaftis House flat 102, Limassol, Mesa Geitonia, 4003, CY

Product information: Generic brand, two year warranty in the EU and Northern Ireland

Warnings, Hazard: For adults

Care instructions: If the print does gather any dust, you may wipe it off gently with a clean, dry cloth.
