Guinean Kola Fierté Pride Laurel Wreath T-Shirt — Welcome & Connection

The Guinean Kola Fierté Pride T-Shirt celebrates Welcome and Connection—the generosity of making room for others and the relationships through which we recognize our own worth.

Substantial green leaves, delicate blossoms, and distinctive kola fruit pods form an open laurel-style crown. An ivory ribbon binds the crossed lower branches and carries FIERTÉ, the French word for pride.

Part of Walt & Pete®’s Global Pride Botanicals collection, this botanical Pride shirt brings Guinean plant inspiration together with contemporary LGBTQ+ visibility. Its vintage illustration expresses dignity, belonging, and the possibility of finding connection while remaining true to yourself.

The Meaning of the Kola Wreath

The kola tree provides the botanical inspiration for this artwork. Cola nitida is native to West Africa, including Guinea, grounding the design in the region’s plant life.

Within this design, substantial leaves represent shelter and a generous welcome. Branches suggest the relationships that support us, while small blossoms express the beginnings of new connections. Opened fruit pods reveal what is held within—a visual metaphor for recognition, openness, and the confidence to share something of ourselves.

Two branches cross at the base and sweep outward and upward into a balanced, open ceremonial crown. Here, the laurel form expresses honor and dignity, celebrating identities and experiences that deserve recognition.

The ivory ribbon joins the branches as a symbol of mutual support. Welcome and Connection describes the artwork’s theme: creating space for belonging through kindness, exchange, and shared respect.

The Pride Colors

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet appear across selected blossoms and the exposed nuts within opened pods. Green foliage, warm branches, and reddish-brown pod surfaces anchor the botanical palette.

Clearly distinguishable blue and violet complete the six-color Pride spectrum. These rainbow details are an intentional artistic interpretation, connecting the kola-inspired wreath with LGBTQ+ identity and visibility.

The Meaning of “FIERTÉ”

Fierté is French for pride. It can express self-respect and a legitimate sense of satisfaction in oneself, someone else, or something valued.

Within this design, FIERTÉ celebrates positive pride in identity, heritage, community, and lived experience. It offers an affirmation of personal worth and the freedom to feel connected without diminishing who you are.

The acute accent on É is preserved in the artwork. Crisp charcoal serif lettering places the word on the ivory ribbon where the branches meet, bringing the design’s message of pride and connection together.

The Artwork

Inspired by late-19th-century hand-colored botanical plates, the illustration combines fine engraved linework, varied watercolor tones, matte painted detail, and restrained archival texture.

Veined leaves, delicate blossoms, textured branches, and opened kola pods give the wreath its distinctive character. Its rounded laurel silhouette, open interior, and softly folded ribbon create a balanced composition with room for each botanical element to be seen.
