The Meaning of the Mangrove Wreath

The artwork draws inspiration from Liberia’s coastal mangroves. Mangrove species such as Rhizophora racemosa occur in Liberia, grounding the design in the country’s plant life.

Within this design, branching stems represent relationships that support growth. Substantial leaves suggest protection and care, while elongated propagules—the developing young plants characteristic of these mangroves—become symbols of new beginnings and future possibility.

Two branches cross at the base and sweep outward and upward into an open ceremonial crown. Here, the laurel form expresses honor and dignity, recognizing the worth of individual lives and shared experiences.

The Pride Colors
