Pagmamalaki Philippine Sampaguita Laurel Wreath Pride T-Shirt
Celebrate Filipino heritage, LGBTQ+ identity, and the courage to live authentically with the Pagmamalaki Philippine Sampaguita Laurel Wreath Pride T-Shirt.
The design reimagines the classical laurel wreath using branches of sampaguita, the national flower of the Philippines. Two flowering branches cross at the lower center and sweep upward into an open ceremonial crown—a form traditionally associated with honor, dignity, achievement, and recognition.
Sampaguita, also known as Jasminum sambac, traditionally symbolizes purity, fidelity, and hope. Its fragrant ivory flowers are commonly arranged into garlands and presented as expressions of welcome, devotion, and respect. Transforming these culturally meaningful branches into a laurel-style wreath connects Filipino heritage with perseverance, community, and the dignity of being recognized for who you are.
Ivory blossoms are joined by sampaguita flowers in antique pink, brick red, burnt orange, gold, heritage blue, and violet. These Pride-inspired colors are distributed naturally throughout the wreath instead of appearing as rigid rainbow stripes. Deep botanical greens and weathered stems preserve the plant’s identity while the brighter flowers celebrate the diversity and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community.
Beneath the laurel wreath appears the Filipino word PAGMAMALAKI, meaning “pride.” Pronounced approximately “pahg-mah-mah-LAH-kee,” it can express pride in one’s identity, heritage, community, or accomplishments. Within this design, PAGMAMALAKI unites Filipino cultural pride with LGBTQ+ visibility, self-respect, and belonging.
Inspired by late-19th-century botanical plates, the artwork features engraved linework, matte pigments, watercolor texture, and subtle archival wear. Different sampaguita laurel compositions appear on the front and back, creating a coordinated two-sided design.
