The Paire 084 Keepsake Box reproduces a vintage photobooth portrait of two Black sailors on a glossy ceramic tile lid. Their direct gazes and relaxed expressions give the image its appeal: a personal moment preserved with warmth and immediacy. Set on a box for jewelry and small mementos, the photograph connects the act of keeping an image with the things we choose to keep today.

The supplied photograph record estimates the portrait to circa 1942–1946. The men lean close within the compact frame, one slightly forward, both looking toward the camera. Their pale caps stand out against the darker clothing, while the folds of the curtain provide a simple background. Digital restoration and colorization bring the reproduced image into color while retaining its softly rendered photographic character. The result draws attention to the two individuals and their shared presence.

Within Walt & Pete®’s Keepsake Boxes collection, this portrait makes room for Black companionship in the historical imagery we bring into our homes. Presented within LGBTQ+ visual culture, it offers resonance for Black queer customers, collectors, and anyone who values images of men pictured together with ease and closeness. The sailors’ names and relationship remain undocumented. Their visible companionship invites reflection on belonging without requiring a story beyond the photograph.

Varnished rubberwood construction and a soft felt-lined interior provide storage for jewelry and small personal treasures. The glossy ceramic lid makes the portrait a focal point on a dresser, bedside table, or shelf. Dual hinges hold the lid at 90 degrees when open, and a slip-resistant felt base helps prevent sliding. Available in three color options, this keepsake box makes a thoughtful gift for a partner, friend, or chosen-family member—a useful object with a human moment at its heart.

Why You’ll Love It

A distinctive historical photobooth portrait of two Black sailors.

Meaningful Black representation within Walt & Pete®’s LGBTQ+ visual storytelling.

Soft felt-lined storage for jewelry and small personal mementos.

Varnished rubberwood construction with a glossy ceramic image tile.

Thoughtful gifting for partners, friends, and chosen family.

Product Features

High-quality varnished rubberwood construction.

Glossy finish available in three color options.

Slip-resistant felt base helps prevent sliding.

Dual hinges hold the lid securely at a 90-degree angle.

Soft felt-lined interior.

Glossy sublimation ceramic tile lid featuring the reproduced photograph.

Ceramic lid tile: 6 × 6 inches.

Photograph & Archival Note

Descriptive Title: Two Black Sailors in Dark Uniforms, Close-Framed Photobooth Portrait
Estimated Date: Circa 1942–1946, according to the supplied record
Photographer / Camera: Unknown; automated photobooth camera, according to the supplied record
Location: Not documented

The subjects are identified as two Black sailors by Walt & Pete®.
