This contemporary wooden box displays a restored and digitally colorized historical photograph on a glossy ceramic tile lid. The portrait is engaging at first glance: two men in sailor caps lean into the tight frame, one looking directly toward the camera with his mouth slightly open, the other offering a broad, toothy smile. It is a small, memorable scene to keep close at hand.

The vintage photobooth image is estimated to date to circa 1940–1950. Both subjects wear white sailor caps and dark naval-style uniforms with striped collars. Their heads nearly meet within the narrow composition, and the original print’s dark perimeter remains visible in the reproduction. The photographer, place of production, and personal identities are not documented. The photograph is part of a companion sequence with PAIRE 153, which shows the same two men in a different pose.

Photobooth portraits occupy a special place in personal photographic history: compact images made in brief sessions, often capturing expressions that feel less formal than studio sittings. For LGBTQ+ collectors and chosen families today, images of companionship can provide space for reflection on memory, visibility, and the ways people have pictured themselves together. The sailors’ identities and relationship are not assumed; the image’s value lies in the moment that survives.

The box is made from high-quality varnished rubberwood, with a glossy finish offered in three color options. A soft felt-lined interior holds jewelry and small personal mementos, while a slip-resistant felt base helps prevent sliding. Dual hinges hold the lid securely at a 90-degree angle. The 6 × 6-inch glossy sublimation ceramic tile features the historical image and makes the box a distinctive accent for a dresser, bedside table, or shelf. It is a thoughtful gift for a partner, friend, or chosen family member on a birthday, anniversary, Pride, or simply because a memory deserves a place of its own.

Walt & Pete® — You’ve always been in good company.

Why You’ll Love It

A genuine vintage photobooth portrait featuring two broadly expressive sailors.

A meaningful connection to companionship and LGBTQ+ visual culture without assigning identities.

Soft felt-lined space for jewelry and small keepsakes.

Varnished rubberwood, glossy ceramic artwork, and dual supporting hinges.

A thoughtful gift for partners, friends, chosen family, and vintage photo collectors.

Product Features

High-quality varnished rubberwood construction.

Glossy finish available in three color options.

Slip-resistant felt base helps prevent sliding.

Dual hinges hold the lid securely at a 90-degree angle.

Soft felt-lined interior.

Glossy sublimation ceramic tile lid featuring the reproduced photograph.

Ceramic lid tile: 6 × 6 inches.

Photograph & Archival Note

Walt & Pete® presents this historical portrait within a broader context of LGBTQ+ history, memory, and visual culture.
