THE PHOTOGRAPH — Estimated to date from approximately 1925–1935, the original photograph depicts a bare-chested male entertainer standing on a raised surface before a group of men. The central figure wears socks and holds a soft-brimmed hat with both hands. He smiles toward the camera while several surrounding men look toward him or converse with one another.

A large mirror on the left reflects part of the scene. Dark wooden wall paneling, a hanging electric lamp, and a worn ceiling establish the character of the interior. The spectators wear tailored jackets, ties, scarves, and brimmed hats characteristic of the late 1920s and early 1930s. The photographer, location, and occasion remain unidentified.
