Located on Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, the Onyx Bar reflects the hidden queer social networks and nightlife spaces that existed decades before modern LGBTQ visibility. During the mid-20th century, bars and taverns often served as some of the few places where LGBTQ communities could safely gather, socialize, and build connections.
