Inspired by the historic Ten Hundred East, this Walt & Pete® design faithfully reimagines a preserved newspaper advertisement from Milwaukee's pioneering LGBTQ publication, GPU News. Rather than creating a modern retro graphic, the artwork has been thoughtfully reconstructed as though it were an original advertisement carefully clipped, archived, and rediscovered nearly fifty years later.

Established in 1967 according to the bar's historic advertising, Ten Hundred East became a welcoming neighborhood destination during a transformative period in LGBTQ history. Located at 1000 East North Avenue, the bar offered dancing, live entertainment, and a piano lounge while providing generations of patrons with a place to gather, celebrate, and build lasting friendships within Milwaukee's growing queer community.

The design preserves the striking medieval-inspired "Ten Hundred East" lettering, elegant hand-drawn tree branch illustration, and period newspaper layout that appeared in contemporary advertising. Gentle paper aging, subtle letterpress textures, and restrained archival wear create the feeling of a genuine historical clipping rather than newly created artwork.
