The Meaning of the Flax Wreath

Flax has a longstanding connection to Belarusian textile traditions, providing the fibers used to make linen. Its cultivation, spinning, and weaving connect the plant with generations of skilled making.

Within this artwork, the interwoven stems suggest relationships that strengthen through connection. Delicate flowers represent individuality, while rounded seed capsules symbolize the stories and possibilities carried forward.

Two branches cross at the base and rise into an open ceremonial crown. Here, the laurel form expresses honor and recognition. The ribbon joins the branches as a symbol of mutual support.

The Meaning of “ГОНАР”

ГОНАР, transliterated as honar, is Belarusian for pride and can also convey honor. Its meaning depends on context.

Within this design, the word expresses positive pride in identity, heritage, and community. It affirms self-respect and the value of being recognized as yourself.

The original Cyrillic spelling appears once in deep charcoal lettering on the ivory ribbon, where the branches meet.

The Pride Colors

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet appear throughout the flowers, buds, and foliage. Blue flax blossoms remain the botanical foundation, supported by natural green leaves and warm seed-capsule tones.

Clearly distinct blue and violet complete the rainbow palette. The additional flower colors are an artistic interpretation that brings LGBTQ+ visibility into the wreath.
