The Meaning of the Shea Wreath

The shea tree, Vitellaria paradoxa, grows in Burkina Faso and provides the botanical inspiration for this artwork. Kew includes Burkina Faso within the species’ native range.

Within this design, substantial green foliage represents shelter and care. Small clustered blossoms suggest the many individual contributions that sustain a community, while fruit symbolizes nourishment and the possibilities that thoughtful support can bring.

Two branches cross at the base and sweep upward into an open ceremonial crown. Here, the laurel form expresses honor and recognition. The ivory ribbon joins the branches as a symbol of mutual support.

The Meaning of “FIERTÉ”

FIERTÉ means pride in French. It can express a justified sense of satisfaction in yourself or something you value.

The acute accent on É is preserved in the artwork. Deep charcoal serif lettering places the word once on the ivory ribbon where the branches meet.
