Eswatini Wild Fig Kutigcabha Pride  Laurel Wreath T-Shirt — Sheltering Connection

The Eswatini Wild Fig Kutigcabha Pride T-Shirt celebrates Sheltering Connection—the relationships that give identity room to grow, flourish, and belong.

Inspired by Ficus natalensis, a wild fig native to Eswatini, the artwork brings broad green leaves, textured branches, and rounded fruit into an open laurel-style crown. An ivory ribbon binds the crossed stems and carries KUTIGCABHA, a siSwati word associated with pride. Kew Science

Part of Walt & Pete®’s Global Pride Botanicals collection, this design connects botanical heritage with contemporary LGBTQ+ visibility through a celebration of dignity, interdependence, and shared belonging.

The Meaning of the Wild Fig Wreath

Within this artwork, the fig’s generous foliage represents shelter: the space created when people feel supported, recognized, and free to be themselves. Textured branches suggest relationships strengthened over time, while rounded figs symbolize growth sustained through connection.

Two branches cross at the lower center and rise into an open ceremonial crown. The laurel-inspired form expresses honor and dignity, recognizing the worth of each identity within a larger community.

The ivory ribbon binds the branches together as a symbol of mutual support. These meanings are the design’s artistic interpretation of the botanical subject and wreath form.

The Pride Colors

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet appear in distinct clusters of illustrated figs. Deep green foliage and warm bark tones provide a natural foundation for the complete six-color Pride palette.

Blue remains visibly separate from violet. The colorful fruit is an intentional artistic interpretation, bringing LGBTQ+ visibility into the wreath while preserving its recognizable fig leaves and branching structure.

Together, the colors express individuality held within a connected whole.

The Meaning of “KUTIGCABHA”

Kutigcabha is a siSwati word used for pride or taking pride. Its meaning depends on context; it can also refer to boastfulness or excessive pride. Published siSwati usage includes both positive relational pride and cautionary uses. bible.com

Within this design, KUTIGCABHA expresses positive pride in identity, heritage, community, and lived experience. It represents self-respect and the affirmation that everyone deserves room to flourish.

Placed on the ivory ribbon where the branches meet, the word connects personal dignity with shared belonging.

The Artwork

Inspired by late-19th-century hand-colored botanical plates, the illustration combines fine engraved linework, watercolor variation, matte painted detail, and restrained archival texture.

Visible leaf veins, weathered branches, and richly colored figs give the wreath a historic, handmade character. Its open interior and softly folded ribbon create a balanced composition for meaningful everyday Pride apparel.
