Jageungsim Korean Mugunghwa Pride T-Shirt | LGBTQ Botanical Wreath Tee

Celebrate perseverance, identity and Pride through Korea’s enduring national flower. This Korean Mugunghwa Pride T-shirt features an open ceremonial wreath of Hibiscus syriacus, commonly known as mugunghwa, illustrated in the style of a hand-colored nineteenth-century botanical plate.

The name mugunghwa is connected to the Korean idea of something eternal, inexhaustible or unfading. The flower blooms repeatedly throughout its growing season, making it a powerful symbol of perseverance, continuity and renewal. Within this design, two intertwined hibiscus branches rise together from crossed stems, representing individuals and communities strengthened by connection, shared history and the determination to continue blooming.

The mugunghwa flowers appear in antique pink, brick red, burnt orange, gold, botanical green, heritage blue and violet. Rather than arranging these colors into a conventional rainbow, the Pride palette grows naturally across the wreath. Each differently colored flower retains the recognizable form of the Korean hibiscus, expressing the idea that individuality and community can flourish together without sacrificing identity.

Beneath the wreath is the Korean word:

자긍심

  • Revised Romanization: Jageungsim
  • English phonetic pronunciation: jah-geung-sheem

The middle syllable, geung, contains a Korean vowel without an exact English equivalent. It can be approximated as “guhng,” spoken with relaxed, unrounded lips.

자긍심 means pride, self-respect or confidence in one’s own worth. It expresses a dignified and affirmative form of pride rooted in recognizing personal value. Within this design, the word connects Korean language and botanical heritage with LGBTQ+ dignity, visibility and the right to live authentically.

Fine engraved linework, watercolor variation, dry-brush pigment and gentle archival wear give the artwork the appearance of a preserved natural-history illustration. The result is colorful yet refined—a meaningful alternative to conventional Pride graphics that can be worn throughout the year.
