The Ceibo Flower

The ceibo (Erythrina crista-galli), also called the cockspur coral tree, is native to South America and grows naturally along rivers, wetlands and gallery forests. The intertwined stems suggest shared heritage and mutual support, while the open center represents a community with room for individual identities and experiences.

Pride Through Color

The ceibo’s naturally fiery red flowers have been expanded into an organic Pride spectrum of antique pink, brick red, burnt orange, gold, heritage blue, indigo, and aubergine violet. These pigments appear approximately 40% brighter than the restrained foliage, making the spectrum visible from a distance while preserving the flower’s distinctive sculptural form.

Rather than following rigid rainbow stripes, the colors move naturally through blossoms and buds on both sides of the wreath. Each flower remains individual, yet all belong to the same living structure.

Archival Botanical Character

Rendered in the spirit of a late-19th-century hand-colored botanical plate, the design combines matte gouache, transparent watercolor, engraved linework, crosshatching, and subtle dry-brush texture. Delicate variations and light surface wear give the illustration the character of a rediscovered natural-history print adapted into a contemporary expression of Pride.
